Danielle Micich is the Artistic Director & CEO of Force Majeure and is a highly-awarded choreographer, director and performer of dance theatre. She makes new work for festivals, theatre productions, opera and film, alongside site-specific and community work.
After graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts and relocating to Perth as a company dancer for 2 Dance Plus, she was appointed Artistic Director of STEPS Youth Dance Company. Her independent work extends nationally and internationally, working with companies such as Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir, Black Swan State Theatre Company, Perth Theatre Company, Night Train Productions, Steamworks Arts Productions, Dwhani Dance Company (India), Barking Gecko Theatre Company, Pinchgut Opera and Monkey Baa Theatre.
Danielle’s ambition is to contribute to making new Australian work through storytelling that reaches audiences by exploring themes and issues relevant to contemporary culture; reflecting, embracing and challenging community attitudes and ideals.⁠

  • First Nations cultural awareness and understanding with Jasmin Sheppard

Jasmin is a contemporary dancer, choreographer and director, a Tagalaka Aboriginal woman with Irish, Chinese and Hungarian ancestry.  Jasmin spent 12 years with Bangarra Dance Theatre performing numerous lead roles such as ‘Patyegarang’, in which critics described her performance as “powerfully engaging, fluent dexterity” (Sydney Morning Herald).  She choreographed a major work for the company, MACQ, on the 1816 Appin Massacres under Governor Macquarie which toured Australian capital cities, regional Australia and Germany.

In 2012 Jasmin was nominated for an Australian Dance award for ‘Best Female Contemporary Dancer’. Her work MACQ was nominated for a Helpmann Award for best dance work as a part of OUR Land People Stories in 2017, and in 2018 received a Helpmann for best regional touring program.  Other works include: No Remittance for Legs on the Wall and Choice Cut for Yirramboi festival, which was presented at Toronto’s ‘Fall For Dance North’ Festival, 2019.Jasmin premiered her first full-length work The Complication of Lyrebirds in 2020 at Campbelltown Arts Centre. The work Premiered at Sydney Festival, 2021.

Skills Development Workshop: Omer Backley-Astrachan 

Omer Backley-Astrachan is a NSW based dancer and choreographer. Originally from Israel, Backley-Astrachan has worked extensively overseas with numerous choreographers and dance companies. Since moving to Sydney in 2014, Omer has been dedicating himself to his artistic practice, making dance works with local professional dancers, and working with emerging artists through professional dance training programs. In 2018 Omer was appointed Course Coordinator at Sydney Dance Company Pre Professional Year.  In 2023 Omer was appointed producer at Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub

RESIDENCIES:

Each artist will receive a week-long Residencies with mentors: Kristina Chan, Jasmin Sheppard, Omer Backley – Astrachan and Cadi McCarthy

Participants will receive $1000 stipend for their residency
