Conversations from the Other Day
Developed by: Alexandra Ford ‘Conversations of the Other Day'. Drawing from the dancers’ personal experiences, Conversations from the other day explores<br /> how these young artists continue to navigate ever-evolving gender constructs within current social and political landscapes. Despite the shift away from gendered binaries and<br /> expectations in recent decades, the young artists’ expressed how patriarchal structures at both the macro and micro level continue inform their daily experiences. As such, this work<br /> offers a small glimpse into the young artists’ mindsets as they merge from teens to young adults.

The Meet Up Festival: Canberra
Meet Up is a biennial gathering of Australian youth dance companies, organised by QL2 Dance and held in Canberra in the off-year of the Australian Youth Dance Festival. Meet Up is an opportunity for youth dance company leaders and young dancers to maintain national connections, discuss important issues and opportunities, share knowledge and skills, and perform for each other.

TERRA FIRMA: Shifting Ground
Shifting Ground: Directed by Cadi McCarthy in collaboration with young people from QL2: Canberra and The Flipside Project. Shifting Ground looked into themes of political, environmental, social and personal shifts that are consistently taking place in our world.

MEETING PLACE
Supported by the Australian Council for the Arts, Meeting Place is a national youth dance film that will be directed by International Film Producer Sue Healey,<br /> bringing together young people (aged 14 – 25) from National Youth Dance Companies: QL2 (Canberra), Stompin (Tasmania), Austinmer (Wollongong), The Flipside Project (Newcastle), NAISDA Dance College, Wagana (Blue Mountains), YellowWheel (Melbourne), ADT Youth Ensemble (Adelaide)

A site-specific work in partnership with Newcastle Art Gallery exhibitions: RACHEL MILNE: Nest, NEW TO VIEW: from the collection. The Flipside Project: senior & junior ensembles will create in collaboration with choreographers: Cadi McCarthy, Mikayla Nangle, Alexandra Ford, a series of dance installations focused on HOME.

WHOSE WORLD IS IT ANYWAY?
A site-specific work in partnership with Museum of Art and Culture: Lake Macquarie linked to the HSC exhibition First Class. The Flipside Project: senior & junior ensembles will create in collaboration with choreographers: Cadi McCarthy, Mikayla Nangle, Alexandra Ford, a series of dance installations focused environmental impacts facing our planet.
SHADOWLAND
The Flipside Projects: Aboriginal Youth Ensemble participated in a week long film project led by choreographer: Natasha Rogers, composer: Gambirra Illume and Film Director: Ashley de Prazer. Through the week the ensemble storyboarded, choreographed and directed a dance film based on their identities and relationship to the land
THE FRAGILE TERRAIN
The Fragile Terrain was created in conjunction with the RDC youth exchange and first performed at the Newcastle Art Gallery. The work was then performed at AYDF: International in Melbourne and at the Sydney Season of Mixed-Bill to rave reviews
TRANSITIONS
Transitions was a 20 minute long work that was created in 2018 in conjunction with the Catapult Company work: That Place In Between. It looked into themes of transitioning from youth to adulthood. The work was performed at the Civic Theatre: Newcastle, Art House: Wyong and as invited guests at the final of the Short Sharp choreographic Festival: Form Dance Projects - Sydney.
Rutherford Dance Company: Youth EXCHANGE
Rutherford Dance Company: Youth (Birmingham UK) under the Artistic Direction of Adam Rutherford, travelled to Newcastle to participate in a choreographic exchange for a week in 2019. The Flipside Project and RDC: youth created a series of new collaborative works that were performed at the Newcastle Art Gallery in July 2019 - before both companies headed to Melbourne to participate in the Australian Youth Dance Festival: International
FOUND
Found was presented at the Newcastle Art Gallery in response to the exhibition by Patricia Wilson - Adams. Choreographers included: Cadi McCarthy, Kristina Chan, Skip Willcox & Natasha Rogers working alongside composers: Zackari Watt & Gambirra Illume. The performance include the senior Flipside ensemble & the Aboriginal Youth Ensemble. The performances are dedicated to our dear friend Brady
SOUNDS OF SILENCE
Sounds of Silence was a series of installations performed in conjunction with the HSC First Class exhibition at the Lake Macquarie Regional Art Gallery. Choreographers included: Cadi McCarthy, Sara Black, Natasha Rogers & Skip Willcox. The performances also incorporated dance - films by Ashley de Prazer, and original score by Zackari Watt. Sounds of Silence looked into issues regarding social media & the internet - the isolation that it causes and the bullying and negativity that can be associated with it
The Edge
The Edge was created as a series of installations on the concept of Fears facing young people. The Edge was performed at Maitland Regional Art Gallery and traversed throughout the entire gallery. Choreographers: Cadi McCarthy, Sara Black & Emily-Kate Watts, composer: Zackari Watt and Film Maker: Ashley de Prazer. Found incorporated the senior, junior, First Nations ensembles
NEW TRANSLATIONS
New Translations was created as a series of installations in conjunction to the First Nations exhibition: Translations at the Lock-Up. The work incorporated the senior, junior and First Nations ensembles. Choreographers included: Jo Clancy (Wagana Aboriginal Dancers), Natasha Rogers, Skip Willcox, Omer Backley-Astrachan & Cadi McCarthy with original scored by Zackari Watt & Gambirra Illume. New Translations incorporated dance films and documentaries by Film Director: Ashley de Prazer
Pushing Boundaries
Pushing Boundaries presented at the Griffin Duncan Theatre supported by NSW Public Education & The University of Newcastle, included a series of works that dealt with young people's views of the world and included the junior & senior ensembles. The performance included works by: Cadi McCarthy, Casey Horner, Marnie Palomares, Yukino McHugh, Brandon Atoui, Harrison Elliot & Jake Kuzma
POP UP AT THE GALLERY
The Flipside Project received funding from the City of Newcastle to perform a number of short works across Newcastle's cultural institution including the Newcastle Art Gallery & the Newcastle Museum. These works were created specifically for this funding and were performed by Emily-Kate Watts, Paige Carr, Bella Fairbrother, & Emma Boertje
Manning The Fort
Manning The Fort was a performance work presented in collaboration with Tantrum Youth Arts at Fort Scratchely. It detailed the women's stories during WW2 who served in the Australian Forces, manning the Fort in the Newcastle Harbour. The performance incorporated works by Cadi McCarthy, Rhiannon Newton & Marnie Palomares and films by Jessica Coughlan with Madeline & Amelia Denholm, & works by professional dancers: Emily-Kate Watts & Katrina McLardy. Manning the Fort received a 2016 CONDA award for choreography.
The Flipside Project
The Flipside Project presented at the Griffin Duncan theatre in partnership with the University of Newcastle & NSW Public Schools. Australian Youth Dance Festival: International Melbourne
An international youth dance Festival: Melbourne incorporating workshops, performances and conferences. Titled REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE (rpm), the Festival brought together more than 150 youth dance practitioners, leaders and facilitators together to create, collaborate and reflect while immersing in energising and inspiring dance encounters. Ausdance Victoria, in partnership with Youth Dance Australia, presented the Australian Youth Dance Festival – International 2019 (AYDF) in Melbourne, Australia, 7-12 July 2019. With an extraordinary line up of practitioners from all over including the UK, Singapore, India, Scotland, Finland, Denmark and all over Australia, the 5-day long festival had youth dancers dance, think, make and talk dance together, through daily sessions in contemporary dance, choreography, repertory and improvisation.

RIPTIDE
Riptide was the inaugural Flipside Project performance created with the support of the NSW Department of Education, The Newcastle University & Hunter Water. The performance was presented at The Playhouse: Civic Theatre and incorporated new works by: Cadi McCarthy, Joshua Thomson & Marnie Palomares. The work dealt with themes regarding water, environment al concerns and including films by University of Newcastle students and the senior & junior ensembles
Warriors Rest Thy Warfare's O'er: Stories in Our Steps
Warriors Rest was presented in collaboration with Tantrum Youth Arts in Stories in Our Steps. Performed in a church Warriors Rest was a work that detailed the lives of the 5 brothers from the area that went to fight in WW1. Choreographers included: Cadi McCarthy & Marnie Palomares with an original score by Zackari Watt. Pre-professional performed: Rodney Beatty & Raegan AshleyWilliams also performed with four male actors with a dance theatre work created by Cadi McCarthy. This work was the recipient of a CONDA Award in 2015

Papapanpalya: Adelaide
The Flipside Project was invited to perform at the World Dance Alliance Conference: Adelaide and perform a work from the Sounds of Silence at its opening event in front of a large international contingent. The Conference incorporated workshops and a performance opportunity where young people from across the globe collaborated on creating and performing site specific works across Adelaide
