 AUSTRALIAN YOUTH DANCE FESTIVAL: INTERNATIONAL

7 – 12 July 2019 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE

“The Flipside Project hails from Newcastle and presented Fragile Terrain, inspired by Greta Thunberg’s UN speech. In angular unison the dancers break into smaller groups, contrasting high and low versions of an overarching phrase. In almost military style, they project toward a single point with building intensity.”

LESLEY GRAHAM: DANCE AUSTRALIA

Ausdance Victoria, in partnership with Youth Dance Australia, presented the Australian Youth Dance Festival – International 2019 (AYDF) in Melbourne, Australia, 7-12 July 2019.

Titled REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE (rpm), the Festival brought together more than 150 youth dance practitioners, leaders and facilitators together to create, collaborate and reflect while immersing in energising and inspiring dance encounters.

With an extraordinary line up of practitioners from all over including the UK, Singapore, India, Scotland, Finland, Denmark and all over Australia, the 5-day long festival had youth dancers dance, think, make and talk dance together, through daily sessions in contemporary dance, choreography, repertory and improvisation. Running alongside the youth dancers’ sessions was a 2.5-day Think Tank program for dance leaders, educators, professional and emerging artists with an interest in youth dance/arts practice.

Directed by Alice Lee Holland, the 2019 Festival brought together youth dancers and their leaders from Australia and around the world for five incredible days of creativity.
